In late 2017, North Lanarkshire Council launched a proposal to make changes to the Entitlement to free school mainstream transport for both Primary and Secondary pupils.
The consultation period was to last until January 9th 2018 and then go to the Scottish Government for feedback before being collated and then voted on by Councillors.
After a meeting of the Council on January 9th, the Labour group announced that they no longer support the cuts. This, hopefully, spells the death of the proposals, as Labour were the only ones still supporting it after a successful campaign by this site and others, and of parents and groups all across North Lanarkshire. Thanks also to the SNP councillors of North Lanarkshire who were instrumental in spreading the word of these cuts and assisting in the protest against them. And let’s not forget the power of Facebook.
